Europe's second wave building
Updated: Aug 25, 2020
Six days ago we asked the question whether Europe was about to suffer a second wave of COVID-19 infection. Today most countries have higher worsening reproduction numbers and growing case numbers. The evidence is getting worse.

For convenience here is a comparison of where Reff was six days ago and where it is today. The highlighted yellow in the fourth column are the countries that have had Reff increase.

Notes
The zero case data for Spain on 23 August reflects a common weekly pattern of testing and this is a day when no testing is taking place or is reported.
Germany's lower case data on 23 August does not reflect an underlying trend.
Countries not covered in this blog with growing Reff include Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Slovakia and Portugal.
